A rug is indispensable in a cosy home; it gives a homely atmosphere. But 'suddenly' there is a big stain. No need to panic, as you can very easily clean your rug yourself. The stain will disappear and you will also save on costs for professional cleaning. In just a few (easy!) steps, your rug will be like new again!

Cleaning?

My carpet actually still looks perfectly clean, so why should I clean it anyway? A question we understand, but a lot of dirt can collect in your rug. The rug acts as a kind of filter, collecting all the dust. The dirt is stored in your rug, which causes the fibres to be damaged and the rug to wear out more quickly. A great shame and therefore very easy to prevent!

Self or professional cleaning?

Do you opt for professional cleaning or do you prefer to do it yourself? This depends on a few factors, such as how delicate your rug is but also how much money you want to spend on cleaning it.
Also pay attention to the manufacturer's maintenance instructions; some rugs can only be cleaned professionally.

If you choose to clean your rug yourself, we can give you some options:

  • Wet cleaning with James Water and a hoover. James Water is applied to the rug, brushed and vacuumed after drying. Also read the instructions on the packaging.
  • Cleaning with a steam cleaner. Contact us first to check whether your carpet is suitable for this. Steam dissolves dirt, stains and grease and the dissolved dirt is immediately collected. So no residue is left in the rug - ideal!

A clean rug in three steps:

  1. Preparation

Good preparation is half the battle. You can prepare your rug for cleaning by vacuuming it thoroughly. Modern hoovers have several options that allow you to remove even the finest dust. Place a handy attachment brush on the hoover; if you have a high-pile rug, we recommend a smooth nozzle.

  1. Let the detergent do its job.

Make sure you cover the rug with James Water. Work by hand in a circle from the outside inwards. The rug should only get superficially wet, so make sure not to apply too much agent!

  1. Wash out detergent.

Wipe the rug with a soft cloth. The rug should then be allowed to dry thoroughly. Then vacuum thoroughly again.

Specific stains, specific tips, granny knows best

Bummer, those annoying stains whose first thought is: I will NEVER get them out. James Stain Wonder will take care of this, the instructions can be found on the packaging.

We also collected some useful tips:

  1. Spilled chocolate, super annoying because these are noticeable stains! You can clean this stain quite easily with: ICE! And no, not with chocolate ice cream of course. If you apply ice to the stain (preferably in a bag), the chocolate will freeze and you will easily break the stain off. Did you know that this trick also works for chewing gum!

  1. Red wine in my rug, a nightmare! Especially on a light rug. Yet it is possible to remove the stain without immediately panicking or pulling out the wallet at a professional cleaner. How. Sprinkle salt on the stain, moisten it (if the stain has already dried) and rub from the outside in (very important, don't do it the other way round). When dry, vacuum up the dirt with a hoover and repeat if necessary.

  1. Coffee! Another mean one. You can then clean your rug with baking soda or baking powder. Spread the baking soda evenly on your rug, rub lightly and then wipe off with hot water. Finally, you can vacuum away the dirt with a hoover.

  1. Dark stains in your rug? Lemon juice has a bleaching effect, ideal for light rugs. Drip the lemon juice on the stain or dip a cloth in the lemon juice and treat the stain.

We hope you get something out of our tips, of course you can always contact us if you have any questions or doubts.
